Episode 31. Some mother you are

In today’s S*%! People Say episode; we’re talking about being a working parent. People often think that being a good parent and being successful are mutually exclusive. I don’t think that’s true at all, and I’ll tell you why today.

In this episode, I share the story that made me really understand this stigma almost 10 years ago. Unfortunately, not much has changed, and there are still a lot of assumptions around parents who are working hard on their own dreams and also raising a family.

If you are a parent chasing your dreams, some people are going to judge you. It’s almost inevitable. You can use it as fuel to be even more present at work and home, even more strategic with how you use your time—or it can take you down. It’s really up to you.

Episode highlights

  • 1:35 - Being a good parent is really about the quality time that you spend with your kids and being there when they need you.

  • 2:28 - A friend of mine at the time, or a woman who I thought was a friend of mine, kind of out of the blue said “some mother you are”.

  • 3:14 - I believe this happened because society told her that you could not be successful, have your own life, and be a mother.

  • 4:10 - Women are taught to feel guilty when they chase their own dreams instead of dedicating their lives to others.

  • 4:44 - If you’re a parent chasing your dreams, some people are going to judge you.
